How early can autism be diagnosed?
New checklists help parents, teachers, doctors, and nurses diagnose autism for early treatment.
A new autism checklist can indicate sympotoms of autism spectrum disorders in children as early as one year old. The 24 question checklist is writtten in easy to understand terms and it can be answered in a few minutes. By answering the questions, parents and doctors can uncover early signs of autism. Although these 24 questions have not been pubished at the time of this writing, some of the signs of autism to look for include a lack of shared enjoyment, repetitive behaviors, and language delays. The lack of shared attention in children as young as 1 can be a symptom of autism, since children at that age should be trying to get your attention and bring you into their world by pointing at items and trying to get you to interact.
The following words have been identified as those that should be expected to be used by a 2 year old in normal circumstances. Basically, a two year old would commonly be using these terms so if they have not reached this proficiency level you may want to consult with an expert.
